Spring Blooms

If you think Britain is stuck in the grips of a seemingly endless winter, rest assured Spring is just around the corner.
An explosion of colour in West Sussex is heralding in the new season as millions of Pansies and Violas burst into bloom in four giant greenhouses.
The first of the bedding plants from Roundstone Nurseries in Pagham, West Sussex will begin their journey to B&Q stores and other garden centres across the UK today.
Because of the cold winter and the delay in people getting out into their gardens, orders from retailers have come in two weeks later than usual this year. The 120,000 metre sq. greenhouses have been kept colder than normal to stop the flowers blooming too early.
Nursery Manager, John Polman said: "We've managed to slow down the growing by about a week but we do need more orders to come in quickly. The plants can cope with freezing temperatures but we've kept the temperature at 2 degrees as it isn't good for the glass in the greenhouses to freeze."
Roundstone grow two million Pansies and half a million Violas each Spring.
